Tommee Tippee Nasal Aspirator proves to be a lifesaver!
It’s not the most glamorous product in the world – but it’s worth its weight in gold to new parents Susan and Elliott Coupland from Kilsyth, North Lanarkshire.
The bulb-shaped nasal aspirator which is intended to unblock a baby’s little nose, is included in our Closer to Nature Healthcare Kit and came to the rescue in the nick of time when their precious baby daughter Ainsley inhaled mucus and couldn’t breathe at just six days old.
Said her mum ‘Ainsley was born after a fairly difficult labour and had since been particularly ‘mucusy.’ That, coupled with her love of just too much milk, led to her being very sick at 10 o’clock one night. Unfortunately due to her positioning at the time, she inhaled a large amount of thick mucus and could not clear it.
‘Thankfully I was with her and managed to attend to her fairly quickly. However, even I could not assist her to clear the mucus and she very quickly deteriorated and eventually stopped breathing, becoming blue, sweaty and limp.‘
Susan called for her husband to ring an ambulance and while he was on the phone she remembered she had bought the Healthcare Kit before Ainsley was born. ‘I am a nurse and I remember looking at the contents and examining the bulb aspirator and reading about what it did.
‘In desperation I used this to try and clear her airways. It worked almost instantly and I have never been so relieved to hear a baby wail.’
The ambulance took Ainsley to hospital where she was checked out and declared fighting fit. In fact, says Susan, she hardly took notice of the entire event.
Since then she has continued to do well (as you can see in the photographs).
But, says Susan, ‘We are utterly convinced that without your product our baby at best would have been seriously ill right now.
‘Believe me, we have never been more grateful for a product in all our lives, so thank you.
