  • Is the Perfect Prep machine safe for my baby as it does not boil the water?

Provided your tap water is of drinking quality, the filter in the unit will remove any impurities. Certain bacteria such as e-coli and pseudomonas can be present in water, which is why guidelines recommend that you boil your water before making up a bottle. Our filter has however been tested and proven to remove these same bacteria.

  • Why is the amount of feed over or under the level of feed I was expecting?

You can expect up to 5% variation due to scale tolerances on our Perfect Prep machine– tolerances exist on both the accuracy of the bottle graduations and the water volumes of the Perfect Prep unit. These tolerance levels are within European standards – EN 14350.

    Water Volume Advice

As is normal with all manufactured products, the Perfect Prep machine dispensed water volume has an allowed tolerance of +/- 5%.

Additionally, there are potential tolerances in the measurement graduations of our Closer to Nature® bottles.

This means that any volume below 100ml may vary by +/- 5 ml, and any volume above 100ml may vary by +/- 5%.

It is therefore possible for the combination of both tolerances, machine and bottle, to make the volume dispensed by the machine appear inaccurate.

Our Closer to Nature® bottles meet or surpass the requirements for volume tolerances as specified by European Standard EN 14350.

If you are still concerned that your measurements look to be out by more than 5%, we can certainly look to replace the unit for you upon receipt of your proof of purchase, which also needs to highlight that the unit was purchased within the last 12-months. Contact our Careline Team for further guidance.

  • Why can’t I make a smaller feed than a 4 ounce bottle?

We would have loved to be able to prepare a smaller bottle volume. Unfortunately, the reason behind this is due the volume needing to be large enough to easily split into two:

    1. An initial hot shot big enough to dilute the formula into

    2. A dilution big enough to dilute the hot down to body temperature, ready to serve

For any smaller feed we don’t have enough hot water in which to dilute the formula powder effectively, or enough to dilute and cool it down sufficiently from 70 C.

Although we do not manufacture formula powder, we have looked at what the leading brands recommend and most assume that a 9lb+ baby will be on 4 oz feeds. It is difficult to recommend a "suitable from" age because every newborn weight is different. Some babies are onto 4oz feeds within a couple of weeks whereas others may take longer.

  • My temperature warning light keeps coming on and I don’t know why. What can I do to turn this off?

The Perfect Prep unit contains a probe that measures the temperature of the water in the tank, preventing the unit from dispensing if the water is above 25 C. This is a key safety feature to ensure that the final feed is not too hot for your baby. High water temperature should only ever be an issue in hotter climates. However, we are now finding that the UK are now experiencing higher summer climates. It is not uncommon for mains water to rise in temperature under these conditions. We therefore recommend that the cold tap is flushed for 10 seconds before filling the tank.

Other preventative actions include (i) keeping the unit out of direct sunlight (ii) regularly topping up with cold tap water rather than letting a full unit stand and warm for long periods of time (iii) keeping a cold jug of water in the fridge ready to top up or (iv) adding ice cubes to the hopper.
